Why do people who want to be your contact also leave their IMs or emails unavailable?

Yeah I agree, I also think that people who are your contacts you should be allowed to at lest e-mail. I mean if they do not allow any communication then what's the point? I mean you become a contact so you can get to know the person and help them with any questions they have and they you with any questions you have. But beyond that I mean I add people because well, they seem interesting and I would like to get to know them some. Yeah I agree with you 100% on this one. =)
